BMXing, and Star of the North Games...
The 'Star of the North Games' are being held in St. Cloud this year, it is a loose likeness to olympic games for each state and then every 2 years they have olympic style games, for previous 2 years qualifiers the 'games' are in Colorado, the state competitions this year are for the 2011 games in San Diego. basically for the more typical athlete it is a chance to compete in a olympic style event... (www.starofthenorthgames.org) So the BMX races on Monday the 29th were the "Star of the North Games" with Medals being awarded verses the typical trophys... Team Revolution had an EXCELLENT showing on Monday night, although there were only 4 team members... First up was Mason, who got second place in his first moto of 5 riders and did really well it was a great race all the way to the finish, so he transferred out of the first moto, then Alek, Alek had 7 in his class and he managed to get a third and transfer direct to the main as well! JP had a total points race and for both of His motos he put a small gap on second place and held them off for 2 aces! (first place equal 1 point, 2nd 2 points, 3rd 3 points, rider with the LEAST amount of points after the main wins.) I had some YOUNG and fast competition in the cruiser class, and it was all I could do to keep them within striking distance, a national number expert got 2 aces, and I got 2 thirds for my total points cruiser class race. I also had total points race for the class bike, Terry and Jill both showed up so we had a 28 plus novice race, and even though I forgot my shoes and had to ride with loose fitting casual shoes on 'clipless pedals' I managed to get out front, Terry's gates are improving and my lack of being clipped in made the race interesting. I was able to get out front and hold on for 2 aces in the motos... "NOW FOR THE MAIN EVENT" hehehe <think abnoxious announcer voice> My cruiser class was up first, and this time I got a good start and stayed with the young bucks for the first straight and was able to stay within stryking distance to the finsh but was unable to pass them, I did however get a bronze medal!... Next up, Mason got a great start, and in the first berm stayed low then moved to the inside, it was back and forth for the first 2 straights and berms and in the last berm Mason made a great move and passed for the lead, then really worked it down the final straight for a GOLD MEDAL WIN!!! Way to go Mason! Alek was up next, he got a good start and was close to the front and was able to make it to the lead, I can't recal where it was but he did a great job working hard all the way to the finsh for the GOLD MEDAL WIN! After that was JP, and with his 2 aces already he just need to stay second or better, to which he responded with a great start and a small gap for the GOLD MEDAL WIN!!! and Last and oldest, but not the least, my main was pretty much a carbon copy of the motos, had a decent start, got out front and stayed there for Team Revolutions 4th GOLD MEDAL WIN!!! Our team had a BMX clinic with Alise Post (ABA pro girl champion) world traveling jet setter and 2012 Olympic hopefu... no 2012 OLYMPIAN!... we have confidence that she WILL make the 2012 OLYMPIC BMX TEAM! Everyone in attendance for that clinic learned some great stuff and definitely got faster! Even this old fart... (ok well I'm kinda old)... Gratuitous Sponsor PLUG...
