In my normal bizare way I embarked on a motorcycle ride a couple weeks ago...
I found a motorcycle gathering in Hyder Alaska that Ron Ayers (ayersadventures.com) puts on every spring on or near memorial day, it primarily a casual ride to hang out, but some people decide to do a Iron Butt Assosiation certified ride and schedule it to end there, since it is the closest city to the lower 48 that is actually IN Alaska. The ride is called the 48+, which basically means ride to every state, get a receipt to show you were there which has to have the time, date, city, and state (printed) on the receipt. Also getting some documentation and witnesses at the start and finish of the ride. Anyway My route took me through the states in this order...NE, IA, SD, ND, MN, WI, IL, IN, MI, OH, PA, NY, VT, MA, NH, ME, RI, CN, NJ, DE, MD, WV, VA, KY, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, FL, MS, LA, AR, MO, KS, OK, CO, TX, NM, AZ, CA, NV, UT, WY, ID, MT, WA, OR, AK... and for the most part I got them in that order, once or twice I reversed a couple states for convience sake. Anyway, it was a pretty uneventful ride, hardly got wet. Missed almost all the rain and what i did encounter was so light that it was hardly worth calling it rain! The 'ride' itself was 8537.8 miles according to the GPS and my average overall speed including stops was 46.4mph, and my average moving speed was 67.5, I finished the ride in 7 days, 13 hours, and 45 minutes. the record is something like 6 days and 9 hours, but I would have to go verify that somewhere... anyway, it was a great ride, and I enjoyed being out on the road again. However it is really great to be home with my lovely bride! Thanks for reading! Brett. |
